Summary/Abstract: The authors publish a hoard comprising 46 medieval coins from the 16-17th centuries discovered at Nicolae Bălcescu, Teleorman County and kept in the “Teohari Antonescu” County Museum in Giurgiu. The coins were issued in Lithuania, Poland, Riga and Teschen. The most recent coin, establishing the hoard’s end date, was issued in 1620. The deposit was most probably hidden between 1620 and 1621, in the context of troop movements during the war between Poland and the Ottoman Empire which also affected Wallachia. Aspects of the Polish coin’s circulation in Wallachia, at the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century are discussed.
