Summary/Abstract: The need for the development of military archival work among Serbian Army leadership occurred in the second half of the nineteenth century. The military and state leaders devoted full attention to this issue as a result of the threat of the First World War. The fate of the Serbian military archives in the Great War was linked to the fate and suffering of Serbian people and the Army. During the Great War, the Main Headquarters’ History Department took care of the transportation, safety, and preservation of the military archives. While at Corfu and Salonika, the History Department established the foundations of military archival legislation. The collection and preservation of military archival material began at the Salonika Front by general affairs offices, logistics, and operations authorities.
