Summary/Abstract: The Free Territory of Trieste was formed after the Paris Peace Agreement and it was an independent state under the protectorate of the UN Security Council. However, the Free Territory of Trieste was divided into territories under the supervision of the Anglo-American military administration (Zone A) and the Yugoslav military administration (Zone B). The Yugoslav military administration was an armed force through which the Federative People’s Republic of Yugoslavia conducted its mandate in Zone B. During its existence (1947–1954), the Yugoslav military administration relied completely on state bodies, especially the Ministry of People’s Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Finance. The importance of the Yugoslav military administration for Yugoslav international affairs was determined by the international context and local circumstances. The presence of Yugoslav state bodies on territory under the international protectorate was the best way to organize and influence the Yugoslav military administration.
