Summary/Abstract: In the introduction to the present article, the author presents criteria for the classificationof Slavic languages and draws attention to the existence of different research approaches tolanguages. There follows an overview of familiar and lesser-known Slavic languages: nationallanguages with a long tradition and a large number of speakers; literary microlanguages; non--standard dialects (mixed languages), etc. Some Slavic languages were created or revitalizedafter 1989 or resulted from political decisions. The article details the respective names ofthese languages – in Polish, in the original (i.e. in the given language) and in Russian.
