Summary/Abstract: This paper talks about tradition and innovation in the field of folk culture. Being a phenomena under continuous transformation, folklore changes in time, due to the social, economic, spiritual modifications. So is the case of the customs, significant part of the Romanian folklore. Some of the customs have been forgotten, some others are still performed, but without the primordial significations and in a new shape, not always the best. The focus of the paper is on four customs still practiced in Sibiu county, in an attempt to recover the cultural identity. However, at times a former custom turns into an event or even worse, into a festival.
