Summary/Abstract: The rapid development of communication technology has influenced not only the alternatives and opportunities of community participation but also the use of language, enabling new forms of discourse. People communicate more through social networks such as Facebook (FB), Twitter, Instagram, Instant Messaging - IM, Skype, E-mail, and chat rooms. These new ways of interpersonal communication, for which is used the term Computer Mediated Communication - CMC from the researchers, have changed the way we use language, enabling new forms of discourse with distinct features. Users use language forms and features that are similar to both spoken and written language in this kind of virtual communication via the Internet, in accordance with the particular context. This paper intends to examine some of these features: the prosodic features of the spoken language (intonation, rhythm and emphasis) through which users conveys different emotional states; different punctuation marks; use of the capitals; various word formation processes, such as abbreviations, acronyms, combinations of letters with numbers, emoticons, etc.; morphosyntactic elements; types of sentences etc.The corpus of the data for our analysis consists of posts and comments on Facebook from different users created using the special application Post and Comments Extractor V1.0. This application makes it possible to collect all comments and postings of users in an Excel file for a very short time. The amount of data is very large, which makes the results of our analysis even more credible. The entire database was introduced into the concordance program, through which were made statistical analysis on the frequency of use of various characteristic elements in communication on social networks and mainly on Facebook.An important element of our language analysis is the questionnaire conducted with questions about some general issues about using Facebook and specific questions about the language used on Facebook. This questionnaire was completed by 80 subjects pertaining to different social, cultural and gender ages and statuses. The questionnaire data was analyzed using the statistics program IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0 and their interpretation was used to draw some conclusions.
