Summary/Abstract: Contemporary studies, have showed that Oxytocine has multipotential action and plays a major role in human development. Oxytocinergic system is involved in labor controlling, lactation, mother-infant and father-infant interactions, social development, partner seduction, bounding, thrust and relationship building. It also plays a major role in sexual behaviors via activation of dopaminergic pathways in mesolimbic and mesocortical regions of the brain leading to sexual excitation, stimulation of reward limbic system and positive sexual and emotional reinforcement. It may also enhance orgasm and control ejaculation in men. As a result of oxytocin receptor polymorphism, hormonal imprinting and epigenetic modifications Oxytocin may have a different effect on human social and sexual behaviors. The aim of the study was to present the multipotential action of Oxytocin, contemporary medical indication for is use and further targets. PubMed, EBSCO, Embase, Web of Science and Google Scholar medical databases were used for literature search using terms: “Oxytocin” “Sexual” “Behaviors” and “Function”. Out of 801 medical papers 71 were relevant and were chosen for this review.
