TOP 09 and Public Affairs in the Context of Institutionalization of the Czech Political Parties after 1989

Summary/Abstract: This article is based on the theory of institutionalization of political parties, designed by Angelo Panebianco, which considers institutionalization of political parties to be a process in which a political party as an organization becomes ”objective“, natural and socially recognized part of the social system through its existence and behavior. The article presents several concepts concerning establishment of political parties and party systems in post-communist countries during the period of democratic transition, with special regard to the Czech political parties. In the next section the author employs Panebianco's theoretical framework in the analysis of a level of institutionalization of the new parliamentary political parties TOP 09 and Public Affairs.
