Summary/Abstract: The cycle of rituals practised in the past, as well as those that are considered remnants of former rites and are manifested today in a symbolic manner during key moments of human life, are of continuing interest to cultural studies, especially for those cultures that have not passed through gradual adaptation of traditions into contemporary society under the influence of rapid and imposed changes. There is thereby great need to further study these symbolic forms of cultures thoroughly. The aim of this article is thus to ascertain changes that are currently taking place regarding the rite of henna, a life-cycle ceremony known as a rite of passage and practised traditionally in Albanian culture by brides-to-be as a key moment in their lives. These celebrations are enriched with ceremonial elements of new global cultures, which are being absorbed into and adapted by Albanian culture as a reflection of socio-cultural change in everyday life.
