Summary/Abstract: Albania has an average altitude of 708 meters above the sea level, which is twice as high as the average of Europe. The country is mostly predominated by the mountainous area, with mountains and hills constituting about 77 % of the entire territory. Albania falls in the subtropical climate belt and is part of the Mediterranean climate zone. The country has considerable water resources, which include rivers, lakes and large torrents. Within the country, there is a high percentage of the European flora growing; whereas a typical Mediterranean fauna is found in the Adriatic and Ionian Sea, along with a wide range species of fish and molluscs. These areas are situated 299-999 metres above the sea level.
