Summary/Abstract: Set comparison being a multicomponent and idiomatic naming affects widely the sphere of similarity. Comparative phrases in set comparisons denoting colours are, unambiguously, of intensifying as well as of hyperbolizing meaning. Commentated comparison of equivalent and structurally identical Slovak and Polish dialectal set comparisons with adjectives biely, červený (white, red) and čierny (black) points out that comparisons were developed on the basis of the same motivation; they are realized through the same parts of speech and have, in principle, the same meaning.
