Summary/Abstract: According to Sirach, those who are pleasing undergo testing like gold (Sir 2,5). Wisdom is clothed in gold (Sir 6,30), as is the person who surrenders himself to wisdom. A real brother cannot be exchanged for the gold of Ophir (Sir 7,18). The grace of a wise woman is more precious than gold (Sir 7,19). If someone does not receive the teachings of Sirach, gold can be the cause of his end (Sir 8,2). It must be remembered that it is necessary to “decide about one’s riches according to the commandments of the Most High” and that will bring more benefit than gold (Sir 29,11). Thus we have the connection between gold and the commandments. So it is when someone possessing riches aids the poor (Sir 29,8-13). Riches must be multiplied in accordance with the command of the Most High. Gold is not important, good health and strength of the poor one is more important (Sir 30,15). The rich person, who did not pursue after gold, shall be blessed (joy of heart, strong body – Sir 30,16). He is the one that underwent trial in the fire of humiliation (Sir 2,5) and was shown as being perfect (Sir 31,10). He decided about his riches according to the law of the Most High, he humbled himself bowing before the poor. He understood the health of the poor as more important than gold.
