Summary/Abstract: Within global aviation the Middle East calls the attention of researchers not only by its faster than average growth rate (emerging to a fourth traffic hub), but also by the extremely uneven spatial distribution of its air sector. The Persian Gulf’s “oil countries” benefiting from their highly favourable geographical position, play the role of a transfer zone between Europe, the Far East and Africa and have be-come a region of increasing semi-global importance of the Middle East, while peripheral areas (Iraq, Syria, Iran, Yemen, etc.) – due to recurring armed conflicts – gradually lag behind. The paper after introduction of the evolution of the local air companies’ stock, the innovations in air transport industry and the development of the aircraft fleet, gives a multiple level analysis on the supply with airports, trying to link them with efficiency factors. The study concludes with an analysis on the international relations, on geographical orien-tation and distribution of the traffic of the big-gest airports (generated by pilgrims, tourists and migrant workers.) by of macro-regions.
