Summary/Abstract: Ivan Paňkevyč is especially known as a linguist-dialectologist who studied Transcarpathian dialects and Ukrainian dialects of Eastern Slovakia in the first half of the 20th century. The author of the paper approaches the life and scientific work of this prominent Ukrainian researcher. The most significant of his scholarly work is the monograph Ukrajinski hovory Pidkarpatskoji Rusi i sumižnych oblastej [The Ukrainian Dialects of Subcarpathian Rus and Adjacent Regions] (1938), in which almost 15 years of work in the field of phonetic system and grammatical structure of Transcarpathian dialects by Paňkevyč was completed.
