The research and development financing – the examples of Polish and international support programs

Summary/Abstract: The 21st century is considered to be the period in which R&D products will dominate. In every field it can be observed a product or a component based on research. Financing research and development is not only science financing, but also supporting the development of technology and products that everyone uses or consumes. The article presents mainly the issue of obtaining financial resources for scientific research and development work conducted by entrepreneurs in cooperation with the science sector. In the first part the authors show the different types of financing sources and the need to finance research into new technologies and products in the product life cycle. In the second part, the examples of global experience in financing R&D activities of companies were discussed. The next sections cover the characteristics of Polish financing sources in the context of the Programme Innovative Economy
