Summary/Abstract: Effective government regulation may be necessary to address a range of issues including: identified market failures, achieving specific public interest objectives, address externalities, contribution to public goods and reduce the power of monopolies. On the tourism market regulation is of special importance as the competitive advantage is achieved at the destination level. Although tourism economics literature provides a vast contribution to tourism policy issues, it does not provide any significant tools to measure tourism regulations. The aim of this paper it to provide a theoretical discussion of measuring tourism regulation, especially those related to tourism market features.
