Summary/Abstract: Albanian standard language, 46-year-old and with a journey full of obstacles and difficulties has achieved to show itself and its many values, embodying them in the functions it is identified with and created for. It is now facing the challenges of time and is involved in developments and changes related to the environment in which it is implemented, but also the international ones. This requires from us more work, responsibility, and awareness in order to increase its raising and prestige, which is an everyday and imperative matter. This implies two processes: the raise of internal prestige, nationwide, and the raise of external prestige, international. Both processes are inextricably interwoven with each other and external prestige of Albanian language is completely determined by its internal prestige. The raising and elevation of the standard Albanian prestige means a range of aspects: - It must be accepted as a generational achievement and nationwide value, because there are still people, even institutions that implicitly or explicitly raise against it, bringing not linguistic and scientific arguments, but often regionalist and even political arguments. - it means the realization of its unifying and homogenising function, because as an official language it results differently from its counterparts in the Balkans and beyond, that are spoken in the countries where linguistic boundaries generally coincide with national and political ones. Even at the beginning of this century it emerges as a unified language of a divided nation into several countries, in each of them with a different status. This status, nationally multisclar, hinders the realization of its functions, the expansion, acquisition, and elevation in the best possible level. - it means supplementation or enrichment of the basic language tools, necessary and indispensable for its realization, in an organized, institutionalized, and planned manner. Albanian standard uses generalizing works of high level, such as: normative grammar, explanatory normative dictionaries or dialectological atlas. However, to increase further its prestige, to bring it closer to that of other European languages, we should undertake more comprehensive studies, which are established with the design of new works. Moreover, a sector for its linguistic corpus (database) should be established. - It means improving the institutional language policy, because the most serious problems it has today in the new multi state context relate exactly to the lack of political support and coordination towards it by the countries of Albanian-speaking areal. - It means the implementation of linguistic norm and culture by the user, at the first place by state institutions, as well as the increase of linguistic culture in spoken language. - It means its permanent and continuous enrichment with lexical, phraseology and semantic units. It shows its prestige, not only through the vitality and sustainability, but also through increasing creative and absorbing skills and possibilities, being enriched through two routes: the internal and the external enrichment. - It means that scientific work with civic and national responsibility for its purification from unnecessary borrowings. - It means increasing the school's role in learning and the quality of learning the standard, by mandatory improvement the linguistic culture of texts. The major achievement for drafting Abetare kombëtare [National ABC], should be followed by drafting as soon as possible the texts Albanian National Language for 2nd, 3rd, and up to the 9th grade, because their lack significantly hinders the spread and learning of Albanian language standard. The raise of Albanian standard national prestige inevitably leads to its international prestige elevation. We, as its carrier, should aim to work for it and remain it dignified alongside the most developed European languages, equipped with sufficient and appropriate means to carry out any kind of discourse, aiming increasingly the quality, accuracy, wealth and effectiveness of expression
