Summary/Abstract: The class of participial adjectives, a model class and semantically a specialized one flourishes in the Albanian language and in Greek, as well as in the other Indo-European languages. Adjectives of such a type are derived from the participles of the corresponding verbs. In Albanian, this process occurs in two stages: verb (participle)-adjective, whereas in Greek it occurs in three stages: verb-participle-adjective, for participle is considered as a lexicalgrammatical unit. In both languages there are self-existent adjectives having attributive function and contextual adjectives having predicative function. Semantically these adjectives designate the attribute of an action result expressed by the verb and they may have a passive meaning (lag - lagur (i) / vreho - vrehamenos), but also an active or a reflexive one (known – who knows; which is known / (kori) zilemeni - (a girl) who envies; which is envied etc.). Participial adjectives develop their semantic structures, enter various semantic relations, build up idioms, etc. Morphemically, in Greek, as well as in English, Italian, Russian, etc. they correspond to the participle, whereas in Albanian they differ from participles, for they take a preposed article and the article plays the role a word-formation formant. In Albanian these adjectives are derived from the past passive participle, usually of transitive verbs, whereas in Greek they are derived from both participles: the present passive participle (with –amenos, -umenos, -omenos) and the past passive participle (with –menos). Both in Albanian and in Greek these adjectives are easily nominalied.
