Summary/Abstract: Slovak literature in translation has a representative selection of works of Croatian authors for children and youth starting from the 19th century to the present days (I. Brlić‑Mažuranić, V. Nazor, M. Lovrak, I. Kušan, Lj. Bauer, J. Horvat, H. Hitrec, Đ. Zrakić, J. Cvenić, S. Tomaš, A. Gardaš, Z. Balog). Slovak translations of works of these authors were published in Slovakia, but also in the Serbian part of Vojvodina. Publishing policy in Slovakia has not always supported translations of Croatian authors´ books, being representative of the books by authors from the former Yugoslavia, first because of the socio‑political atmosphere and currently, according to the publishers´ misconception, that its nature is considered not commercial enough. Translations from earlier periods were not always at an adequate level, partly because of the absence of quality translation dictionaries, that is the reason why they performed a rather informative role.
