Summary/Abstract: The novel by Ewa Nowacka, Małgosia versus Małgosia, is an example of a post-war novel. There has been used the dual nature of time space causing the duality of the world presented. The names used in the novel are subordinate to the main artistic intention, ie. the presentation of the place and time of action as a single, coherent reality. The semantic and connotative layers of the proper nouns as well as all the intersemiotic references give the possibility of multifaceted interpretation of literary onyms and make the world depicted in the novel very rich and deeply rooted in the historical and cultural background. The names are used in a number of stylistic features. They function in a cultural-communicative area of the language use. Ewa Nowacka, using appropriate proper nouns, creates a harmonious literary whole.
