Summary/Abstract: In the modern world of education, apart from specific professional qualifications which guarantee good teaching quality and pedagogical accomplishments, a music teacher should as well have media competence. It enables him or her to receive and create messages and utilize media for various educational tasks, such as nurturing young people’s musical interests. In the present article, the author analyses and reflects upon the issues associated with the role and preparation of teachers, who constantly need to advance their skills in order to meet the demands of the new media reality. How are they to exist in the world of the “digital natives” and fulfil the role of organizers and consultants in the process of teaching and learning? How are they to demonstrate the proper approach to music using latest technological developments? How can they perfect the media competence so that the new reality does not paralyze them, but becomes a source of new inspirations, ideas and innovations in the pursuit of better musical education for young people?
