An example to women’s non-governmental organization during the Second World War: Izmir solidarity association

Summary/Abstract: In Turkey, various social measures became a current issue in addition to political and economic measures that are taken by the state during the Second World War. These social measures were basically for the needs of the families of soldiers in front line and hinterland during the war. Within this period, Turkish women were organized on their parts to subsidies hinterland country-wide. Correspondingly, the women in Izmir supported this implementation by establishing Association of Charitable of Izmir. This Association of Charitable of Izmir had the title of being the first women’s non-governmental organization by continuing the works in cultural and educational activities apart from welfare activities in the later years. From this aspect, Association of Charitable of Izmir made great contributions to progress for social responsibility consciousness.
