ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL MEASURES TAKEN DURING THE PERIOD OF NATIONAL STRUGGLE

Summary/Abstract: During the National Struggle Period, serious measures were taken in economic and social aspects as well as military aspects. The measures carried out by the government of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for the needs of the Turkish army, which successfully completed the National Struggle militarily, and implemented with the sacrifice of the society constituted one of the important factors in the success of the National Struggle. While fighting against the occupation at the front, the government also considered the needs as well as the security of those behind the front. Within the scope of the economic measures implemented, importance and priority was given to ensuring the continuation of agricultural production under wartime conditions and it was aimed to meet the needs of the army through new taxes. The Tekâlifi Milliye orders were an exemplary practice in this regard. The economic and social policies implemented during the National Struggle Period became an important feature of the new Turkish state's characteristic of being a social state in the following period.
