AN EVALUATION OF THE CULTURAL STRUCTURE OF THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE IN TERMS OF THREE STYLES OF POLITICS

Summary/Abstract: The Ottoman Empire showed a cosmopolitan characteristic both socially and culturally. Üç Tarz-ı Siyaset was the manifesto that produced solutions to the problems the state was facing. The cultural structure of the Ottoman Empire did not allow the subjects to live as an Ottoman nation. Again, the sense of religious unity was not enough to keep the Muslim subjects together. According to Üç Tarz-ı Siyaset, the idea of Turkism was brought to the forefront as the only solution in the final stage, the idea of the establishment of a nation state composed of Turks. Yusuf Akçura's Üç Tarz-ı Siyaset, which was welcomed with interest by the intellectuals of the period, was effective in bringing the idea of Turkism to the forefront as an identity by intellectuals and the founding cadre in the process leading to the Republic.
