Summary/Abstract: This paper is aiming to reveal the symbolic information behind the grape motif adornment, to be found on the folk costume from Boian village (Sibiu County, Romania). In the past, the ethnographic region of Târnavelor Valley was known as Weinland / Wine County, due to its vineyards and well-renowned wines. The area`s viticultural profile strongly influenced the civilization and culture, the vines and grapes becoming a widely used symbol on the folk costume. In this context, the paper presents several adornment patterns to be found on the traditional blouses from Boian and, by means of the qualitative and interpretative analysis, it reveals the vine and grapes signification from an aesthetic, crafts, social and religious perspective.
