Summary/Abstract: Energy policy problems in European Union revealed the complete lack of strategic vision in relation to the contemporary energy challenges and threats. The crucial point here is to reduce dependence of energy raw materials supply from Russia. Since the position of allies against Russia's policy is inconsistent, often we can see an annoying lack of solidarity on issues of common energy security. As an important participant in energy resources market Russia helps to erode the stability of Europe by breaking its community by the conflict of interests. These objectives are reached by breaking systems and norms of international law, not to mention the basic principles of coexistence. NATO must strictly fulfill its role in ensuring energy security, as it has huge strategic potential and the ability to protect infrastructure and transit area in cooperation with partners in the event of an emergency. In this respect, NATO should fulfill its mission primarily by military means. As recent events have shown that European Union, United States and other countries shifted the assessment of the development of energy relations with Russia and profound revision of energy strategies on both sides of the Atlantic towards the use of new types of energy has been made. State-members of NATO have all possibilities to successfully manage this process, strengthening the transatlantic links despite the aggressive Russian attitude. The results of this will contribute to promoting of an open and transparent global energy system management and trading.
