Summary/Abstract: The phototeque “Gegë Marubi” constitutes a rich archival source for the knowledge and study of the Albanian popular dresses, especially the dresses of the Albania’s northern regions. The photos made by a group of photographers whose career began in the second half of the XIX-th century represent dresses used in the town of Shkoder, and in various villages of the Albania’s norther regions. The represent different phases of the development of dresses in town and village, from different age groups and of all the religious belongings. Some variants are unknown until now by the scholars of the folk dresses. At the same time, the aim of the article is to clarify that some their elements should be taken with a great of salt, especially in the photos made by various “amateurs” of the “Gegë Marubi”. Anyhow, this phototeque remains one of the richest archives for the study of the folk dresses in the period of time from the second half of the XIX-th century up to the period of the second half of the XX-th century.
