Summary/Abstract: Local Action Groups (LAGs) are present in Poland’s rural areas since 2004, first within Leader+ Pilot Programme, then as Priority Axe 4 (LEADER) mainstay of Rural Development Programme for 2007–2013. LAGs are supposed to be created as bottom-up initiatives of those residents of rural areas who wish to act for their local societies. As a rule a LAG covers the area of several communes. Their activities are financially supported by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). LAGs implement their own strategy documents, called Local Development Strategies (LDS) in which they set their goals. LAGs are obliged to monitor and evaluate their actions regarding strategy implementation as well as to assess their offices activities effectiveness. In the paper the problem of diagnosing (evaluating) effectiveness of activities of a LAG has been addressed. An algorithm for evaluating the level of LDS’ indicators achieved as well as a method of assessing a LAG’s office effectiveness were proposed. Presented methods can be applied for evaluating and for comparing LAGs performance throughout the country.
