Summary/Abstract: Numerous examples from the European countries, as well as from other countries all over the world, indicate that a good way of the improvement of competitive advantage are integration processes. In Poland, horizontal integration of the functional type, reflected in groups of agricultural producers characterizes both a small scale and a slow pace of development. This applies especially to the process of formation and working of the mentioned groups with the participation of business entities (cooperatives). The authors of the article attempted to recognize both favourable and inhibitory factors regarding these processes. The research proved that the most motivating factor are economic benefits (higher market rating, more advantageous contracts). The inhibitory factors include individualism and concerns about certain relations inside particular groups.
