Summary/Abstract: The article presents the issue of household consumption in Poland in comparison to some countries of Europe and the world, focusing on the percentage of each group expenditure indicated by the Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose (COICOP) of the total household expenditure. This work discusses the impact of income on individual consumption by using quantitative methods of comparative analysis. It also presents how the way of shaping expenditure on different groups of consumer goods and services have effect on the level of human development index and satisfaction of life. The paper shows how the individual consumption of the household has changed in the years 1995–2010 and the impact of these changes on the discussed measures.
