Summary/Abstract: The main subject of interest in the article make those competencies which are associated with the realization of personnel function in a company and which are critical to the tasks performed by managerial staff with regard to their company’s performance results. In this context the main goal of the paper is to answer the following question: In business practice, how are these competencies weighted in relation to the concrete performance results gained by the companies and in relation to the concrete HRM issues that accompanied them? To realize this goal the article is structured as follows. The main subject of interest and the goal of the article are explained in the introductory part. Next the authors present the basic theoretical and terminological principles that were assumed in the empirical research. In the further part the research methodics applied in the study and selected research findings are discussed. And the final summary and conclusions make the last part of the article. Generally, the competencies of managerial staff within talent management appear to be highly weighted in the sample of international companies whereas in the sample of Polish companies the most important competencies are those which correspond with such HRM subfunctions as employee performance appraisal, compensation and talent management.
