Summary/Abstract: The article presents the level of poverty of rural areas in Poland. This phenomenon means the existence of a possible disadvantage of the rural context in comparison with the urban one. This paper investigates: demography, remoteness, education and labour market in rural areas. The analysis shows that two aspects emerge as the major problems of rural areas: education and remoteness. Limited transport infrastructure is still a problem in rural regions, increasing the distance from markets and, more generally, social isolation of some social groups. I Poland an important digital gap in rural areas is observed. The problem of low educational attainments is particularly relevant for rural areas. The share of adults with low educational levels is higher in rural areas than in urban regions.
