Level of social assistance expenditure in Poland in the years 2004-2009

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to present the level, structure and changes of expenditure on social assistance in Poland in the years 2004-2009. Although the sphere of poverty in Poland decreased, the social assistance’s value increased very fast. The interprovincial comparison showed the dispersion in the number of population benefitting from the social fund. The average amounts paid to recipients varied from 1300 PLN in Podkarpackie up to 2000 PLN in Opolskie voivodeship. The social assistance’s size and the main passive form of aid do not support the activity of beneficiaries.
