Summary/Abstract: The text explores the cultural interaction between Georgi Mitov, Dragan Danailov, Zahary Zhelev and Nikola Ganoushev - among the first Bulgarian painters who attended the Academy in Turin - and their professor of fine arts Giacomo Grosso. A focal point are the three 1895 copies of Giacomo Grossos painting a portrait of my father' by Georgi Mitov, Dragan Danailov and Zahary Zhelev. The 'Nude (1918) by Nicola Ganoushev and Giacomo Grossos 'Nude (1896) are also examined in the context of the genre within Europe and Bulgaria. We have also reviewed the years of study of the Bulgarian painters at the Academia Albertina, the courses they attended and the awards they won while in Turin. We believe that a discernible, albeit probably not popularly understood, 'Italian connection in the Bulgarian fine art tradition of the late nineteenth and the first two decades of the twentieth century.
