The text is the result of a study that took place in 2008 in the depots of the gallery. During the process of research it was established that the National Gallery in Rome is the owner of seven paintings and two sculptures by Bulgarian artists – Nikolay Djulgerov, Nikola Petrov, Nikola Tanev, Ivan Hristov, the brothers Asen and Iliya Peikov and the sculptor Kiril Todorov. On the basis of this new information the author presents the activities and the desires of the Bulgarian artists to communicate and to be an integral part of the artistic life in Europe from the beginning of the 20th century. The artist of that period is a man of wide interests, with a taste for the new and modern in the art scene. Their paintings have an originality and spirit that was accepted with interest and which had their place in the history of European art.
