The role of regional support in the European Union

Summary/Abstract: The free market mechanism has many limitations that mainly related to No. ideal competition and as a consequence so-called market weakness is observed. The regional policy is a form of a state intervention that widely used in the course of socioeconomic processes. Regional policy is closely connected to the determination to increase the economic, social and territorial cohesion, especially that is realized on the territory of the Member States of the European Union. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the issue of EU regional support in the context of economic theory, taken actions and new challenges.
