Summary/Abstract: The partnership of cities and regions that was promoted in Europe after the end of the World War II was accomplished also in socialist countries. The main institutions that conducted such actions were the provincial committees, especially the Provincial Committee of the Polish United Workers’ Party. In Opole Province most of decisions were made by the provincial committee in Opole. Apart from the fact that, usually, the activity had strictly propaganda character, it still is an interesting research phenomenon that was not discussed in scientific discourse. Above all, the article deals with the co-operation of the Provincial Committee of the Polish United Workers’ Party in Opole with the USSR, the German Democratic Republic, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Mongolia. The most permanent bonds connected the party organisation of Opole with the Regional Committee of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany in Potsdam. The article’s basis are the files of the Provincial Committee of the Polish United Workers’ Party in Opole stored the State Archive in Opole, and records of the Provincial Committee of the Polish United Workers’ Party in Katowice kept in the State Archive in Katowice.
