Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on a report send on 31 January 1596 by the count Sigismondo Della Torre to cardinal Cinzio Aldobrandini on the consequences of the military confrontations in summer-autumn 1595 in Wallachia and Moldavia. In Della Torre’s views the only way to continue the war against the Porte was to find a diplomatic settlement between the Habsburgs and the kingdom of Poland. In this respect the political aims of the Transylvanian prince, Sigismund Bathory had to be left aside as his claims on the Moldavian principality encountered a strong opposition not only at the Polish court but even in Prague. The report casts interesting insights on the political “propoganda” during the Long War against the Turks and on the information spread by the most important political actors during the conflict against the Porte.
