Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is the representation of nature in the poetry of Maironis (1862-1932) and the role of this representation in the expression of subjectivity. Maironis' poetry gives us a very wide scale of landscape representations and figures of nature, which culturally are very heterogeneous. We can find the features classical, romantic, modernist poetics in it. This heterogeneity reveals also a very complex nature of the subject. Using textual analysis (mainly based on semiotics) the author of the article tries to show that complexity of landscape's representations and the complexity of subject is very closely related to the process of fashioning of inwardness. Maironis seems to be the first Lithuanian writer who gives nearly the whole laboratory of such a process.
