МИТАРСТВАТА НА ДУШАТА В СТЕНОПИСИТЕ НА ЦЪРКВАТА “СВ. ДИМИТЪР” В С. ТЕШОВО
THE ORDEALS OF THE SOUL IN THE FRESCOES IN ‘ST. DIMITAR’ CHURCH IN THE VILLAGE OF TESHOVO

Summary/Abstract: The South-West part of “St. Demetrios” church in the village of Teshovo (Gotse Delchev district, Bulgaria) is painted with the “Trials of the Soul” cycle. Although the usual number of the cycle’s frescoes is 20, in this case the images count 24. The composition, the order and the peculiarities of the paintings are in the focus of the present study. The main purpose of this paper is to show the didactic and influential qualities of the “Trials of the Soul” cycle in Teshovo. On the other hand, the study deals with the language characteristics of the inscriptions to the paintings.
