Summary/Abstract: The main assumption here, resulted from previous research, is that an important connection between cultural characteristics and management practices can be identified at national level. The paper starts with a brief examination of some remarks concerning cultural dimensions and national values and moves on to identify results of some research applying Hofstede’s cultural dimensions to the Romanian business context, for a better understanding of management practices and of their roots. Main areas in which their application was analyzed include the managers’ attitude toward planning, strategy, individual initiative, change, as well as practices in the management of human resources.
