Measuring the Impact of Language Skills on Economic Performance

Summary/Abstract: Research concerning the effects of the employees foreign language skills on the economic performance has had limited results due to a lack of specific tools. For a more detailed perspective on such results, the attempts of several researchers are examined here. A very significant document in this respect is the report Effects on the European Economy of Foreign Language Skills in Enterprise, issued in December 2006, containing data about the current situation in all the countries of the European Union. The paper discusses some of its findings which illustrate the importance of foreign language skills for the development of global economy and provide relevant information for the Romanian context.
