Summary/Abstract: The demographic policy, as a system of activities for impact over the demographic situations in order to form a desirable type of population reproduction is systematically applied in Bulgaria in the last few decades. Till soon it had a particularly pronataiistic character and was being carried out mostly at national level. Under the conditions of privatization, the market economy and the strongly increased emigration, the pronataiistic orientation is gradually losing its importance and is turning to a burden for the society. A new demographic policy is needed. From the position of the demographic crisis into which has fallen Bulgaria, the strategic objective of the future demographic policy is seen in the normalization (recovery) of the demographic situtation. In order to achieve the goal, some indiiect activities are envisaged. They must envelop the natality regulation, the preservation of human resources, increasing the labour activity, optimization of the internal and external migration and improving the quality parameters of the population and the working resources. It is necessary to match the interests of the state and the interests of the different regions and settlements, and the solution of the demographic problems to be implemented on the same basis together with the economic, social, ethnocultural and ecological ones.
