Summary/Abstract: Population migration begins with the settled down way of life of the people. It is the result of a conscious necessity of moving from one place to another. Compulsory features for defining migration are the crossing of intertown and village and interstate borders, selfrealization in the work process, education or nonproductive survival security, and a permanent or temporal change of residence and place of employment on the basis of regular commuting. Travelling and moving which do not correspond to these requirements do not come under migration. The sort and essense of population migration show great variety. From the point of view of duration migration may be durable and temporary (i. e. coming back to the original residence). From the point of view of direction it can be oversea's and interstate. From the point of viw of genesis it can be labour and non-labour. From the point of view of its form — organized and not organized, and from the point of view of participation — individual and family. Subgroups of this classification are presented also, each of these according to the concrete historic and geographic conditions thus reflecting specific features of migration. The strong interrelationship between the separate kinds makes possible the typologization of migration. One can define 32 possible types depending on the basic alternative indicators of the factors duration, direction, genesis, form of expression and way of participation. The typological order becomes bigger with the further differentiation of the indicators and their combination in separate variations. Of essential importance or the evaluation and the prognostic activity of migration processes and the formulation of general and geographic aspects of migration policies in contemporary research is the disclosing of the essense and systematization of typologies in population migration.
