Regional innovation system – the definitive and the model approach (theoretical discussions)

Summary/Abstract: Literature does not use one coherent, universal and widely accepted definition of regional innovation system (RIS), yet different approaches to the meaning of the concept, supported by a model analysis of the structures, allow us to see the basic properties of RIS. They include: interactions in the environment of regional participants, which condition generation and actuation of integration processes; spatial allocation within the region; openness to external entities (from outside the region) and/or their systems; internal coherence modelled upon systems. From the perspective of the foregoing features, the author formulates a proposal for a definitive and model approach to the regional innovation system.
