Summary/Abstract: Without transport and bases from which to operate and get support, the combat units have a low value in terms of force protection capability and that only if the fight comes to them and they fight on their own territory. Even in this situation the tactical mobility requires giving special attention logistic issues. Understanding logistics is crucial for the success of military operations. Unfortunately, it is often confused. The problem lies less in the conceptual complexity of the subject and more in the large quantity of technical details and the huge quantity of materials involved in the movement of large forces. Someone can get lost in the amount of data, unless he has some clear principles of organization, reference points, and basic rules that provide a broad perspective on the subject.
