Summary/Abstract: The offered article studies some problems in the development of the academic course Sociolinguistic aspects of English for MA Students. The basic purpose of the course is to expand and develop the students’ competence in the field of the cultures in which English is the basic means of communication. It also poses the questions of the correlation between linguistic and cultural competence and of the difference between propositional and performative knowledge as a result of which the difference between cultural and multicultural competence is made.
