Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problems of intercultural teaching of foreign languages. In the light of these problems, intercultural communication didactic models in Western and Russian educational programmes are described. There are made some attempts to define content of intercultural education as a system. The system making components such as aims, methods and means of teaching are defined. The main aim of intercultural foreign language teaching is to develop intercultural communication under the following three aspects - effective, cognitive, and strategic ones. New pedagogical technologies in foreign language education are characterized: interactive modelling, cross-cultural analysis of speciality texts, training activities, etc. Intercultural education is treated as a unified lingua-didactic system, effective functioning of which is conditioned by interaction of all the aforementioned components. The author describes topicality of intercultural education in a foreign language teacher training and analyses the problems of implementation of the programme into practice.
