Summary/Abstract: The accession of Poland to the European Union had positive influence on the direction of changes in the domestic food industry after May 1, 2004. Their scale is illustrated by selected indicators , such as sold production, export, investments and profitability. Besides the growth of production, export and investments, there were also some changes in the production structure. They are based mainly on the growing significance of highly processed food. Its consumers are coming largely from the EU member states. Moreover, a relatively slow but constant reduction of the number of the smallest companies has been noticed on the market. Their share in the total sold production decreased. There was also a significant improvement and stabilisation in the financial situation of companies in most branches.
