Summary/Abstract: In the article the authors analyze some peculiarities of the national character of the Rus-sian people from the point of view of the Russians themselves (how they perceive themselves). The aim of the paper is to present the results of the social survey devoted to the values and tra-ditions, which are the regulators of the behaviour and interaction of the representatives of one nation. Each nation has its identical characteristics, its unique culture, but from time to time in the society there appears some tension caused by the divergence of mentalities, by the diver-gence of what is expected from the personality belonging to this or that culture and of what is received. This fact has influenced our interest in the investigation of universal values and has become the reason of working out the questionnaire to carry out the survey aiming at finding out the respondents’ views of the national values of their own nation. Thus, the subject of our investigation is the auto stereotypes. They understand auto stereotypes as opinions, ideas and thoughts of people about themselves. In the paper the authors demonstrate some questions of the survey, the percent of the answers received from the respondent group and represent certain generalization being the result of the analysis conducted.
